About Avatar Candles
The Story
I had the idea for Avatar Candles after performing a series of experimental paintings with wax (Encaustic) and creating a new method of painting that I call Elemental Resonance. I thought “What if I made a candle and combined the ideas of painting and a terrarium” as I am a rather huge plant enthusiast. Thus, Avatar Candles was born and I had my first prototype candle “The Desperado” that I made with wax skulls and a cactus, and of course, sand sprinkled on top. It took some learning to develop the scent profiles, but I extended the same passion and attention to detail that I use when mixing oil paint colors into the different aromas of all the candles.
Next came the idea of a character, an avatar, something to represent the scent. “The Desperado” was always in my head as a rugged character. While I based some of the candle label portraits such as “The Explorer” on historical figures like Sacagawea, others are from pure imaginative spaces, but I wanted to celebrate and represent a lot, if not all ethnicities. All that being said, I really appreciate your interest in this project and I hope it ignites your imagination in the same way that it did mine finding the balance of art and functionality via a candle. Whether you use it for the aroma, the ambiance, or even for the light I hope these candles are enjoyed as much as I enjoyed thinking and making them!
